SINATRA ON REPRISE: NEW AND VINTAGE RELEASES HONOR LEGENDARY ENTERTAINERWith a diverse array of releases by Frank Sinatra scheduled for shipment over the next several months, Reprise Records continues to pay tribute to the legendary artist whose death earlier this year brought a close to one of the most extraordinary and influential careers in the music history. As part of the label's on-going "restoration" series of vintage Sinatra albums, Reprise will follow up its May release of four Sinatra perennials with another quartet of classic albums: I Remember Tommy (1961), Sinatra And Swingin' Brass (1962), Sinatra & Strings (1962), and It Might As Well Be Swing (1964). The albums will be released on September 8th. With the 20-bit remastering process considerably enhancing their sound quality, these four albums chronicle a period of remarkable creativity in Sinatra's epochal career. A tribute to his years as a vocalist with Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra, I Remember Tommy features arrangements by Dorsey band veteran Sy Oliver on such signature Sinatra tunes as "I'll Be Seeing You," "Without A Song" and the longtime Dorsey theme, "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You." Arranged by Neal Hefti, Sinatra And Swingin' Brass spotlights definitive Sinatra performances of, among others, "They Can't Take That Away From Me" and "I Get A Kick Out Of You." Marking the first of many collaborations between the artist and arranger Don Costa, Sinatra & Swing highlights such standards as "Come Rain Or Come Shine" and "Stardust," while It Might As Well Be Swing brings the singer together with The Count Basie Orchestra and arranger Quincy Jones on such Sinatra favorites as "The Best Is Yet To Come" and "Fly Me To The Moon." It has also been announced that the comprehensive Sinatra retrospective, The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings, will be reissued by Reprise this fall. Originally released in 1995 in a limited edition deluxe package, The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings is extensively annotated and contains twenty CD's, 452 songs and over 24 hours of music. The Grammy-nominated compilation will be released in a new package at a considerably reduced price on October 20. Also on Reprise Records' 1998 slate is Lucky Numbers, a compilation of ten Sinatra recordings evoking the legendary locale of Las Vegas. Lucky Numbers was originally available only as a premium for guests of the New York, New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in conjunction with an officially declared Frank Sinatra Day in Nevada, March 10th. It's commercial release will coincide with Sinatra's birthday, December 12th and will be the subject of a nationwide retail contest awarding fifty winners a free trip to the New York, New York Hotel & Casino. |
